This cultivar, considered one of the most refined of the Japanese Cherries, is blanketed in showy double light pink flowers in early spring before the leaves; stunning bronze bark, good fall color and a compact habit; needs full sun and well-drained soil Shogetsu Flowering Cherry is smothered in stunning clusters of fragrant shell pink flowers with white overtones along the branches in early spring, which emerge from distinctive pink flower buds before the leaves. It has dark green deciduous foliage which emerges coppery-bronze in spring. The serrated pointy leaves turn coppery-bronze in fall. The smooth dark red bark adds an interesting dimension to the landscape. Ideally, cherry trees should get at least 6 hours of sunlight each day. Cherry trees do best in deep, well-draining soil that has a pH of 6.0-7.0. Space sweet cherries 35 to 40 feet apart; dwarfs, 5 to 10 feet apart. Space tart cherries 20 to 25 feet apart; dwarfs, 8 to 10 feet apart.
