Glacier Sweet Cherry Tree

‘Glacier’ is a large, dark, sweet cherry that is ready 5 days before ‘Bing’; some believe it has a superior flavor. Self fertile. Sweet Cherry trees are the most common commercial type for fruit production. The main growing areas in North America include the valleys of Washington, Oregon and British Columbia and in the East, around the Great Lakes. Sweet cherries require a long chilling period in the winter, thus are not suited to warm winter areas. They are also intolerant of deep freezes or intense heat; late frosts or heavy rain can damage the fruit set. Ideally, cherry trees should get at least 6 hours of sunlight each day. Cherry trees do best in deep, well-draining soil that has a pH of 6.0-7.0. Space sweet cherries 35 to 40 feet apart; dwarfs, 5 to 10 feet apart. Space tart cherries 20 to 25 feet apart; dwarfs, 8 to 10 feet apart.
