Royal Burgundy Flowering Cherry Tree

The beautiful new hybrid Japanese Cherry, Royal Burgundy, is much sought after for its deep rich red foliage all summer, which turns fiery bronze in autumn. This is a deciduous garden tree that grows to 20’ in height and 20’ in width. It bears ascending branches thus forming an oval to rounded crown at maturity. This cultivar was named as a sport of the more popular Kanzan Flowering Cherry. It was released into the nursey trade in 1990. Flowers appear in mid April consisting of double pink boquets. The limbs will be smothered in pink at the height of the show! Ideally, cherry trees should get at least 6 hours of sunlight each day. Cherry trees do best in deep, well-draining soil that has a pH of 6.0-7.0. Space sweet cherries 35 to 40 feet apart; dwarfs, 5 to 10 feet apart. Space tart cherries 20 to 25 feet apart; dwarfs, 8 to 10 feet apart.
